Since the medical community and the private skin care industry have not clearly defined the term, spas are using all sorts of language, including Para-medical Esthetics, Medical Esthetics, Clinical Esthetics and Medi-Spa esthetics. It's all a little confusing, so don't feel like your out of the loop. But lets clarify some of this language from a medical standpoint. Medical Esthetics and Clinical Esthetics refer to nurses and licensed technical practitioners working in a doctor's office. Medi-Spa Esthetics refers to a Licensed Esthetician working under the watchful eyes of a doctor on location. Note: not all states allow Licensed Estheticians to perform cosmetic esthetic medical procedures with or under doctor supervision. So where does this leave spas and salons?"
