Reneé Schine Crown Special Care Nursery, Northwestern Memorial Hospital:"The Reneé Schine Crown Special Care Nursery (SCN) provides care for over 800 premature and seriously ill newborns every year. Staffed 24 hours a day by Northwestern Memorial neonatologists, SCN is a Level III nursery - the highest designation.
Why Is Your Baby In SCN?
The most common reason babies are admitted to SCN is because they were born prematurely (before their due date). Babies born early may need the special care and extra attention available in SCN. " ******************************************************
Rex Special Care Nursery, Rex Healthcare:"Each baby born at Rex receives special attention and care by the Rex Family Birth Center staff. But on occasion, newborns need some extra-special attention that our Special Care Nursery can provide. Rex Special Care Nursery is a certified Level II nursery that provides around-the-clock care for infants. Neonatology services are available in the Rex Family Birth Center 24 hours a day, too.
Rex Special Care Nursery staff recognize the important relationship that parents and families play in ensuing the health and well-being of infants. That's why they utilize Kangaroo Care, the skin-to-skin holding of pre-term and high-risk infants. Kangaroo Care involves placing a diaper-clad, but otherwise unclothed infant, upright on the bare chest of the caregiver, usually mom or dad. Kangaroo Care has shown to be a valuable asset to the Rex Special Care Nursery, providing a greater benefit to mom, dad and baby." ******************************************************
Rochester General Hospital Special Care Nursery:"The Rochester General Hospital Special Care Nursery is a non-regional Level II nursery closely affiliated with the regional Level IV neonatal intensive care unit at the Children's Hospital at Strong. The attending neonatologists at both institutions are members of the same full-time academic staff.
Attending neonatologists at Rochester General may be reached by calling the Special Care Nursery. Requests for emergency neonatal transports should be directed to the hotline number at the Regional Intensive Care at the Children's Hospital at Strong (585) 275-2198." ******************************************************
Special Care Nursery, Sherman Hospital:"Parents choosing the Birthing Center for the birth of their baby can be assured that if their newborn requires special care, we have the capabilities to care for high-risk newborns, including premature and low-birth weight babies.
The Sherman Birthing Center, in conjunction with Illinois Masonic Medical Center, has been designated by the Illinois Department of Public Health as a Level II with Expanded Capabilities nursery, one of only 11 hospitals in the Chicago area to receive this designation to care for high-risk newborns. This designation is awarded only to hospitals that have demonstrated excellent outcomes in treating high-risk newborns with the necessary staff, services, and equipment." ******************************************************
Special Care Nursery, Strong Memorial Hospital:"Most babies are born healthy and full term. But for those who need special care and support, Highland Hospital offers a level II Special Care Nursery. Our neonatal nurse practitioners and board certified neonatologists are here to provide expert care and 24-hour coverage, with the training and technology to ensure every baby receives the best possible treatment. And in the event you are expecting more than one baby, we are equipped to meet your needs. We know that you want to be with your baby from the beginning, so we have an overnight room for mothers who are physically ready to leave the hospital. Our special care nursery is affiliated with the neonatal intensive care unit at Strong Memorial Hospital and serves as an overflow unit for the regions only level III nursery."
