May 30th, 2005: Canada, Ontario: Caplan Report fails community nurses, Ontario Nursing Association:"It is extremely disappointing to see the Report advocates a system that maintains the principles of the competitive bidding process implemented by the former Conservative government. We believe competition for in-home nursing service contracts has harmed clients in the community and the nurses who provide their care," said ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN."

Fri, May 27, 2005: Oregon: You can learn a lot from a dummy:"A recent night found first-year Providence Portland nurse David Walker struggling to keep a confused and agitated patient in bed, and closely monitoring a cancer patient receiving five units of blood. Yet another patient fighting cancer deteriorated quickly as his kidneys and lungs failed. Walker thrives on the challenge, and he says, at 41, in a third career, he's not afraid to ask for help. "Coming from business, it's just amazing how much a nurse has to do that goes unrewarded … how many details there are. You can't make a mistake," Walker says."

Wednesday 18 May 2005: Great Britain: Biggest ever survey of overseas nurses working in London highlights that many are thinking of leaving the UK:"The NHS in London could face a staffing crisis in the future with more than four out of every 10 overseas nurses working in the capital admitting they are considering leaving the health service to take up posts in other countries. That is the key finding from the biggest ever survey of internationally recruited nurses working in the capital, which has been published today by the King's Fund and the Royal College of Nursing. A major concern of the survey is that two thirds of Filipino nurses working in London – one of the largest overseas nursing staff groups - are considering leaving the UK to work in the US."
